Dear 8th Graders and Families,

What a blast we all had!! The 8th Graders enjoyed their Shabbaton at the home of Mrs. Perline. But Mrs. Perline enjoyed their company even more! Mrs. Perline's daughter, Esta Rimler, was on hand for the Shabbaton as well. The girls were adorable as the pictures will show you.

N - we missed you a lot and hope you can attend the next (G-d willing!) Shabbaton!

We arrived on Friday at Mrs. Perline's house at approximately 2:10 pm and the Shabbaton began with Challah baking in Mrs. Perline's kitchen (see pics). Followed by a Knish Eatery, followed by a quick tour of the stream and bridge outside, followed by Shabbos preparations and candlelighting.

After candlelighting, we all sat on the couch and listened as Mrs. Perline and Esta sang a song followed by a game which taught us all about judging others favorably - being 'Dan lekaf zchus'. We then practiced some 'Black Magic'. Don't worry - there really was no magic involved, black or otherwise!

By then Mr. Perline arrived back from shul and the girls helped finish the salads and set the Shabbos table. After kiddush we ate a yummy meal. The salads seemed to be a hit as not a scrap of lettuce was left behind! Debra provided a lovely centerpiece for the table but it disappeared! Batsheva provided a story and shared the opportunity to tell it. Thanks for sharing, Batsheva! And thank you Debra for the original centerpiece! After the meal we played more games and Mrs. Perline had a hard time figuring them out. Seems she may be from a different generation! Debra was quite quick and figured things out fast. Seems Debra is from THIS generation! :) Mrs. Perline conked out around 10 pm but the girls went on strong till about midnight. Not to worry - they didn't starve! They had a midnight feast!

The next morning, Shabbos morning, the girls were all dressed in their Shabbos best and we all enjoyed the Shabbos lunch. Devorie, Esta's friend, arrived at lunch and stayed the afternoon. At lunch, Yael told us a story of bravery and courage which taught her (and us!) the lesson of using challenges in life as a springboard to becoming a better person. Thank you, Yael, what a wonderful lesson in life that is. We also heard a Dvar Torah from Mr. Perline - thank you, Mr. Perline. We played a game which made us think about things of lasting importance like 'Is it possible for one be happy and do the right thing at the same time?". But 'This is a Moon' (private joke!)

After lunch we had some free time and then some more fun games! Everyone loved it all!

After Shabbos we made yummy sushi and then it was time to say Shavua Tov :(

Reviews show that the girls had as good a time as Mrs. Perline and Esta did! One question we heard a few times was 'When can we have another Shabbaton'? What does that tell you?

Mrs. Perline

P.S. Pictures can be found on our photo gallery. If anyone has any more photos of the Shabbaton please forward them to Mrs. Perline - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
